The Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council (OMVIC) will implement fee changes effective May 1, 2026.

OMVIC is a not-for-profit regulatory authority whose fees are designed to cover the costs of its consumer protection work and supporting activities. OMVIC regularly reviews its fees to ensure they reflect changes in operating costs and inflation, and to support its mandate to protect consumers.

Under OMVIC’s administrative agreement with the Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement, OMVIC’s Board of Directors may approve fee increases that do not exceed the cost of inflation. OMVIC uses inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), as a reference when considering fee adjustments.

Effective May 1, 2026, all registration fees* will be adjusted based on an inflation rate of 2.4%, each rounded down to the nearest dollar.

In 2025, OMVIC established a Curbsider Task Force to proactively detect unregistered activity in the marketplace; implemented enhancements to complaint intake and formal complaint processes; and established a process for assessing the financial viability of dealers during inspections. Fees, OMVIC’s primary source of revenue, support these and other activities that help maintain a fair, safe and informed motor vehicle sales marketplace in Ontario. As a modern regulator, OMVIC continually improves its services, refines its enforcement efforts, and implements efficiencies to better serve the public.

More information about OMVIC’s fees is available on our website.

*The transaction fee and the dealer fee payable to the Motor Vehicle Dealers Compensation Fund will remain unchanged.
