We conduct inspections of motor vehicle dealers to ensure ongoing compliance with the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act (MVDA). Our inspectors are regionally based to ensure our program can cover the entire province.
If we receive a complaint from a member of the public about a dealer, our consumer support team may attempt to resolve the issue over the telephone. Alternatively, an OMVIC inspector may perform an inspection and discuss the complaint with the dealer.
Our inspectors have the right to:
Dealers must assist the inspector when asked, which may include things such as producing a document or record, or helping the inspector use the dealer’s data storage, processing or retrieval device.
Results of inspections conducted under the MVDA are not a matter of public record.
Review our inspection guide and checklist which were created to help you with what you need to know in advance of your inspection.
We offer free education and resources to help dealers and salespersons meet their compliance requirements and succeed.
If you have questions related to compliance with the MVDA contact our dealer support team.
