There is a fee for all dealer and salesperson registration applications and renewals. In addition to the registration fees, dealer applicants applying under the general, broker, or lease/finance classes are also required to make a payment to the Motor Vehicle Dealers Compensation Fund (MVDCF) when they are applying for the first time, and each time they reapply or change classes.
A late renewal fee applies when a dealer or salesperson submits a renewal after the registration expiry date.
If the renewal application is submitted within 60 days of the expiry date, it is still treated as a renewal and subject to the late fee. However, if the application is submitted more than 60 days after expiry, it is considered a new application and processed under standard requirements and routine evaluations.
Effective January 1, 2026, registrants must complete educational requirements specified by the Registrar to renew their dealer or salesperson registration, referred to as the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) . OMVIC will launch its CPD on April 1, 2026. This requirement applies to renewals due on or after July 1, 2026. CPD must be completed before renewal and carries a separate CPD fee for OMVIC’s in-house courses, in addition to the renewal fees and any late fees.
