OMVIC is sharing the below information on behalf of the Ministry of Transportation (MTO)

As of June 16, 2026, the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is implementing updates to the Dealer Authorization Letter (DAL) process to strengthen verification for dealerships submitting a DAL for the first time. These updates are intended to ensure that only properly authorized dealership representatives can complete vehicle transactions at ServiceOntario centres.

When a DAL is being created for the first time at a ServiceOntario centre, staff will now contact the dealership directly.

ServiceOntario will obtain the necessary contact information from the dealership’s website or from OMVIC.ca directory.

The purpose of this call is to confirm that the individual attending the centre is an authorized representative who has permission to conduct vehicle related transactions on behalf of the dealership. This verification step will only take place when a dealership is submitting a new DAL and is not yet on file at that specific ServiceOntario location.

No vehicle transaction associated with the new DAL can move forward until the dealership’s authorization has been confirmed. Verification must be completed before staff can continue with the transaction.
