Georgian College x OMVIC MVDA Key Elements Course

Overview

The MVDA Key Elements course was designed for dealers, managers and salespeople who have not previously taken the Automotive Certification Course (as in, those registered before 1999) and for those who took the certification prior to 2010. Individuals can complete the MVDA Key Elements Course through self-study available at ABSC.

Structure of the MVDA Key Elements course

  • Register through Georgian College by completing their application form and paying the $202.86 registration fee
  • Study independently using the digital Student Manual while awaiting delivery of the physical copy
  • Schedule the test online or in-person at select ServiceOntario locations
  • The test is 60 minutes long and consists of 40 multiple-choice questions
  • The test is open book
  • You have 12 weeks from registering for the course to write and pass the test with a minimum score of 80%
  • Any form of cheating or misconduct may result in administrative action

Please note: Registration for the MVDA Key Elements Course includes one test attempt. If you do not achieve a passing score, you must re-register and pay the applicable fee to retake the test.

Course content

The course covers key regulatory topics, including advertising and disclosure requirements, contract obligations, premises and record-keeping, as well as the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act (MVDA), the Consumer Protection Act (CPA), and the Code of Ethics.

What to do if you see MVDA Key Elements as your education requirement

If you see the MVDA Key Elements course as your education requirement of continuing education, you can complete the MVDA Key Elements Course well in advance of your renewal. Successful completion will apply to your first renewal on or after July 1, 2026, and you are encouraged to plan ahead and allow sufficient time before renewing. This course only needs to be taken once, for your next renewal cycle, you will be required to complete REVS.

You must register directly with Georgian College’s Automotive Business School of Canada (ABSC), which delivers the MVDA Key Elements Course. You can register by downloading the form available on their website and sending it to the email listed on the form.
