All OMVIC registrants renewing their registration on or after July 1, 2026 will be required to complete the requirement listed on their OMVIC portal.

OMVIC’s in-house courses

  • You will have 90 days to complete the courses
  • Courses organized into modules with an assessment after each course
  • Minimum passing grade of 80% with unlimited attempts
  • Will take approximately 4–6 hours to complete
  • Format: On-demand courses, with functionality to save your progress if you need to step away from your device
  • OMVIC’s CPD fee for in-house courses will be $99, payable 90 days before renewal. Learn more about the fee.

 

MVDA Key Elements course

  • Self-study
  • Multiple choice (40 questions)
  • Open book test (online or in-person at select Service Ontario locations)
  • Each registration only permits one attempt at the test
  • Minimum 80% passing grade
  • Cost of $202.86

Requirements

CPD applies to all dealers and salespersons. Dealers and salespersons must complete CPD before they can renew their registration. If a dealer or salesperson does not complete CPD by their renewal date, they will not be able to renew their registration.

Dealers Completion of the CPD program with a minimum passing grade of 80%.

  • Dealers: All persons in charge (PICs) must complete CPD.
  • Corporations: If one of the directors or officers is person in charge (PIC), that director or officer. If none of the directors or officers is PIC, at least one of the directors or officers and the PIC.
  • Partnerships: If one of the partners is PIC, that partner If none of the partners is PIC, at least one of the partners and the PIC.
Annually (within the 90-day window before renewal date)
Salespersons Completion of the CPD program with a minimum passing grade of 80%. Bi-annually (within the 90-day window before renewal date)
Individuals registered before 2010 Dealers and salespersons who were registered before January 1, 2010, with renewal dates on or after July 1, 2026, will be required to complete the Georgian College MVDA Key Elements Course. At least 120 days before renewal date to allow time for completion, testing, grading, and processing.
