Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program

Launching in 2026

Launching April 1, 2026, all dealers and salespersons renewing their registration on or after July 1, 2026, will be required to complete OMVIC’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) education prior to renewal.

Information on OMVIC’s in-house courses:

  • You will have 90 days to complete the courses.
  • Courses broken out into modules with an assessment after each course.
  • Minimum passing grade of 80% with unlimited attempts.
  • Will take approximately 4–6 hours to complete.
  • Format: On-demand courses, with functionality to save your progress if you need to step away from your device.
  • Proposed fee of $99. The final fee will be confirmed in 2026.

Requirements

The program applies to all dealers and salespersons. Dealers and salespersons must complete their CPD before they can renew their registration. If a dealer or salesperson does not complete CPD by their renewal date, they will not be able to renew their registration.

Dealers Completion of the CPD program with a minimum passing grade of 80%.

  • Dealers: All persons in charge (PICs) must complete the CPD requirements by the dealer’s registration renewal date in order for the dealer to renew.
  • Corporations: If one of the directors or officers is person in charge (PIC), that director or officer. If none of the directors or officers is PIC, at least one of the directors or officers and the PIC.
  • Partnerships: If one of the partners is PIC, that partner If none of the partners is PIC, at least one of the partners and the PIC.
 Annually (within the 90-day window before renewal date)
Salespersons Completion of the CPD program with a minimum passing grade of 80%. Bi-annually (within the 90-day window before renewal date)
Individuals registered before 2010 Dealers and salespersons who were registered before January 1, 2010, with renewal dates on or after July 1, 2026, will be required to complete the Georgian College MVDA Key Elements Course. At least 120 days before renewal date to allow time for completion, testing, grading, and processing.

  • If you renew in July, register by February
  • If you renew in August, register by March
  • If you renew in September, register by April
  • If you renew in October, register by May
  • If you renew in November, register by June
  • If you renew in December, register by July

→ You will receive a registration link 90 days before renewal → Register for the MVDA Key Elements Course via Georgian College. Plan ahead – starting January 1, 2026, the passing grade increases to 80% (up from 75%).
If you are a Person in Charge (PIC), you will need to complete CPD by your dealer’s registration renewal date.
