Continuing professional development is a mandatory requirement for dealers and salespersons renewing their registration on or after July 1, 2026. Each registrant will have one education requirement to complete before renewal.
The continuing professional development requirement is met through REVS (OMVIC’s in-house courses) or the MVDA Key Elements Course, delivered through Georgian College, as applicable.
Important – plan ahead
Continuing professional development must be successfully completed before you renew your registration.
Please note: If your required education is not completed before your renewal date, your registration will not be renewed and will automatically expire. You will not be permitted to trade in motor vehicles until your registration is successfully reinstated.
Start with your OMVIC portal
Log in to the OMVIC portal to view your education requirement for continuing professional development. If the MVDA Key Elements Course is listed, it is the education you must complete before renewing.
What to do if you see MVDA Key Elements as your education requirement
To complete this requirement, you must register with Georgian College, which delivers the MVDA Key Elements Course.
You can complete the MVDA Key Elements Course well in advance of your renewal. Successful completion will apply to your first renewal on or after July 1, 2026, and you are encouraged to plan ahead and allow sufficient time before renewing.
You will need to register with them directly by downloading the form available on their website.
Structure of the MVDA Key Elements course
- Register through Georgian College by completing their application form and paying the $202.86 registration fee.
- Study independently using the digital Student Manual while awaiting delivery of the physical copy
- Schedule the test online or in-person at select ServiceOntario locations
- The test is 60 minutes long and consists of 40 multiple-choice questions
- The test is open book
- You have 12 weeks from registering for the course to write and pass the test with a minimum score of 80%
Please note: Registration for the MVDA Key Elements Course includes one test attempt. If you do not achieve a passing score, you must re-register and pay the applicable fee to retake the test.
After you complete the course
Once you successfully complete the MVDA Key Elements Course, you have met your continuing professional development requirement for that renewal.
OMVIC receives confirmation of successful completion directly from Georgian College. No additional action is required. Confirmation is not immediate, and registrants are encouraged to complete the course well in advance of their renewal date to allow sufficient time for confirmation to be received.
For future renewals, your education requirement for continuing professional development will be REVS (Raising Excellence in Vehicle Sales), OMVIC’s in-house continuing professional development courses.
