Continuing professional development (CPD) launches in April. All registrants who renew on or after July 1, 2026 will be affected.
Over 2025, OMVIC has connected with thousands of dealers and salespeople through open houses, dealer visits, webinars, phone calls, and targeted communications.
The summary below outlines the five most important things to know as we approach launch.
1. CPD applies to all registrants
Every registrant will be required to complete CPD before they renew their registration with OMVIC. The intent of this program is to ensure that everyone in the industry has up to date knowledge of compliance requirements and professional standards.
If your renewal date is on or after July 1, 2026, you will be required to complete your education requirement before renewing. Renewal reminders will continue to be sent in advance by email to ensure dealers and salespeople have enough time to meet their requirements.
2. There are two ways to complete your education requirement and the portal will tell you what you’re required to do
If you are unsure about your education requirement, logging into the OMVIC portal is the quickest and easiest option. OMVIC registrants have been assigned one of two courses (listed below). Registrants who have not previously completed the updated Certification Course or the MVDA Key Elements Course through Georgian College will be required to complete the course as part of their education requirement.

3. Renewal timing determines when you must complete your education requirement
Your education requirement is tied directly to your renewal cycle.
- Dealers must complete CPD every year within the 90-day period before renewal.
- Salespersons must complete CPD every two years within the 90-day period before renewal.
For Persons in Charge (PICs), the education requirement must be completed before the dealer’s renewal date, not the registrant’s individual’s renewal date.
4. OMVIC continues to offer open houses and webinars as support
Over 950 registrants have already attended in-person events across the province. OMVIC is continuing to host open houses with additional GTA dates to be announced soon. Monthly webinars will continue until the program launches in April.
These sessions are designed to answer common questions, provide clarity on requirements, and give registrants direct access to OMVIC staff who can help them prepare.
5. OMVIC is here to help and answer your questions about CPD
