Renewing your registration may seem simple, but changes to your dealership or outstanding continuing education requirements can take time to address. Waiting until your registration is close to expiring can delay the renewal process and put your business operations on hold until the registration is reinstated.
Submit Business Change Notices early
Dealers are responsible for keeping their business information current and submitting required Business Change Notices to OMVIC as soon as changes occur. This helps ensure that the dealership’s Person in Charge (PIC), officers, directors, and other required business information remain accurate and up to date.
Dealers should also confirm that the owner, or at least one partner, officer, or director, has completed the required continuing education course before registration expiry. Submitting changes or addressing continuing education requirements late may delay the registration renewal process.
Changing your PIC? Consider the continuing education impact
If your dealership needs to change its PIC, plan ahead. Last minute changes may require additional review and can delay your dealership’s renewal if OMVIC does not have enough time to assess and process the change before the registration expiry date.
For more information, review OMVIC’s Compliance Reminder: Update Your PIC and Business Roles.
Know your continuing education requirement before you register
Some dealers and salespeople have been taking the wrong continuing education course, so it is important to confirm your assigned continuing education requirement before enrolling in a course. You must complete the continuing education requirement assigned to your individual profile.
First, log in to the OMVIC online services portal and check your education requirement. OMVIC’s continuing education page explains which requirements apply based on the education requirement shown in your OMVIC portal account.
