OMVIC joins industry leaders at Canada’s Used Car Week 2026
OMVIC recently participated in Canada’s Used Car Week 2026, one of North America’s leading conferences for the used vehicle industry. As an event sponsor, OMVIC joined dealers, lenders, auctions, technology providers and industry leaders from across Canada and the United States to discuss the trends, challenges and opportunities shaping today’s automotive marketplace.
For OMVIC, the event provided an opportunity to engage directly with registrants and industry stakeholders, share regulatory insights and support a professional, informed and trusted motor vehicle sales industry in Ontario.
Sharing insights on compliance risks and fraud trends
A highlight of the conference was a featured session titled, “Compliance in Action: Trends, Risks and Real Scenarios”. The session was delivered by Jeff Donnelly, OMVIC’s Chief Consumer Protection Officer, Sam Cosentino, Director of Enforcement, and Marcela Coellar, Director of Compliance.
Drawing on OMVIC inspection and enforcement data, the session provided attendees with a practical look at where compliance risks are emerging across the industry. Topics included illegal unregistered sellers, high-risk sales practices, and evolving fraud trends affecting vehicle history disclosures and financing transactions.
Through real-world examples and case studies, attendees gained practical insights into how compliance issues develop, where dealerships may be vulnerable, and the steps businesses can take to strengthen their processes and reduce risk. The session reinforced the importance of proactive compliance and demonstrated how strong controls, accurate disclosures, and effective oversight help protect both consumers and registrants.
Recognizing industry leadership
Canada’s Used Car Week also provided an opportunity to celebrate excellence within the automotive industry. During the conference, Taylor Dickson, Manager of Complaints & Inquiries at OMVIC, was recognized as part of the 2026 Women & Automotive: Profiles in Leadership, which acknowledges emerging leaders who are making significant contributions to Canada’s automotive sector.
Taylor’s recognition reflects the expertise and professionalism of OMVIC’s team and highlights the important role OMVIC staff play in supporting consumers, registrants, and the industry as a whole. It also reinforces OMVIC’s commitment to attracting and developing leaders who contribute to a professional, informed, and trusted motor vehicle sales marketplace.
Connecting with dealers and industry leaders
Throughout the conference, OMVIC leadership and staff connected with dealers, salespeople, and industry stakeholders from across North America. These conversations provided opportunities to discuss marketplace dynamics and better understand the evolving needs of registrants.
Strong relationships between regulators, dealers, and industry stakeholders help ensure OMVIC remains connected to the trends, risks, and innovations shaping the motor vehicle sales industry. By participating in industry events and maintaining ongoing dialogue with registrants, OMVIC gains valuable insights that help inform educational resources and compliance activities.
Strengthening the industry’s response to emerging risks
The motor vehicle sales industry continues to evolve with new technologies, changing consumer expectations, and increasingly sophisticated fraud schemes creating new challenges for dealers and salespeople. Addressing these issues requires ongoing collaboration between regulators, industry associations, technology providers, and registrants.
Events such as Canada’s Used Car Week provide an important venue to share information, identify emerging risks, and discuss practical solutions to industry-wide challenges. For OMVIC, participating in these discussions helps ensure that educational initiatives and compliance activities efforts remain informed by current industry realities. For registrants, it reinforces the importance of staying informed, adapting to changing risks, and improving practices to help prevent fraud, support compliance, and maintain consumer confidence.
OMVIC thanks the organizers of Canada’s Used Car Week and all participating industry stakeholders for helping make the event a success. By engaging with dealers, salespeople and sector leaders from across North America, OMVIC continues to support a strong, professional, and trusted motor vehicle sales industry in Ontario.
