On April 1, OMVIC launched continuing education for dealers and salespeople in Ontario. This marked a significant milestone for the industry as it aligns with other regulated professions and aims to raise the bar for automotive sales and help registrants maintain and enhance their professional knowledge and remain informed of their regulatory obligations.

“They made it very user friendly. It is very easy to use…they break it down the best they can.”

Continuing education has launched with continued support

Jeff Donnelly, OMVIC’s Chief Consumer Protection Officer, and OMVIC’s CEO and Registrar, Maureen Harquail, have been visiting dealerships and hosting open houses across Ontario leading up to the launch to share information on the new requirements and connect directly with registrants to hear their concerns.

“We know that continuing education is new and represents a change for dealers and salespeople,” said Donnelly. “REVS is designed with busy schedules in mind. It is on demand, interactive, and delivered in easy-to-follow modules. After hearing feedback from registrants, we also adjusted assessments to be completed throughout the learning rather than as one test at the end. For registrants completing the MVDA Key Elements Course through Georgian College, the program is self paced so it can be completed on your schedule.”

Harquail, added, “Continuing education helps keep registrants informed so that together we can enhance professionalism and deepen consumer trust. OMVIC will continue to be here to support you. If you have questions or want to learn more, please visit our dedicated webpage, join a webinar, call our dedicated phone line, or send us an email. Our team is here to help.”

Watch the open house presentation on demand

If you didn’t attend an open house, you can watch the full recording on demand. Please feel free to share it with colleagues at your dealership who may also benefit from a walkthrough of the requirements and supports available.
