Fee Schedule For Access To Information Requests To OMVIC

Please read the terms and fee schedule set out below before submitting a request for documents or information to OMVIC staff.

  • This Schedule is made further to section 11 – “Fees” of OMVIC’s Privacy and Access Code and is intended to outline fees and payment procedures associated with the retrieval and production of records.
  • The costs associated with fulfilling Access to Information Requests (“Requests”) are determined on a case-by-case basis to facilitate cost recovery to OMVIC and may include a calculation of time spent to retrieve requested materials. The chart below serves as a guideline setting out how OMVIC will determine the cost associated with the production of records and information requests.
  • The Registrar and Privacy Officer reserve the right to modify the costs specified herein at their discretion and without notice.

Initial Records Retrieval Deposit   $100.00
Minimum Request Fee including the first 30 minutes of staff time spent on responding to the request 

**Minimum Request Fee is used to assess the requestor’s eligibility to access the requested records and is non-refundable, even in the event the request is denied.

Each hour of OMVIC staff time (after the first 30 minutes) spent on retrievingreviewing and preparing records to respond to request   $50.00
Cost of retrieving the file(s) from storage  Estimated: $40.00 – $70.00 
Photocopying/Printing  $0.75 per page
Certified Copies $5.00 per page
Issuing a Director’s Certificate (see section 39 of the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act) $50.00
Additional disbursements like courier fees to deliver information and documents requested or fees payable to obtain or retrieve records may be charged to the requestor  Disbursement Cost 

Procedures

  • All Access to Information Requests must be directed to OMVIC’s Legal Department at [email protected] 
  • An invoice will be provided to the requestor for review and payment, along with detailed payment instructions. Fulfillment of the request is contingent upon receipt of prepayment of each invoice issued.  OMVIC may issue an additional invoice if the costs of fulfilling the request exceeds what was contemplated at the time of the original invoice.  
  • Please review section 36(1) of the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act, 2002, before submitting a request. That provision imposes confidentiality obligations on OMVIC and restricts what information OMVIC can share.  Please ensure that you are eligible to receive the requested information. If not, the $25 minimum charge will apply to the request. 
  • All payments must be made by credit card, certified cheque or money order and are to be made payable to OMVIC.
