Sault Ste. Marie, ON, – The Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council (OMVIC) is warning consumers in the Sault Ste. Marie area to avoid purchasing vehicles from Andy Boston Motors, formerly operating as T.A. Boston Auto Sales Ltd. at 257 Trunk Road, Sault Ste. Marie, and its Director, Thomas Andrew Boston, also known as Andy Boston.

OMVIC continues to receive information indicating that Andy Boston Motors is illegally selling vehicles without being registered as a motor vehicle dealer under Ontario law. Car buyers are reminded that Andy Boston, “Andy Boston Motors,” and any associated business are not legally authorized to sell vehicles in Ontario.

Purchasing a vehicle from an unregistered seller puts car buyers at significant financial risk, as they are not protected under the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act (MVDA) or the Consumer Protection Act. Selling vehicles without being registered with OMVIC is illegal.

Car-buying tips to protect consumers

  • It’s crucial for buyers to verify a dealership’s legitimacy by using OMVIC’s dealer search tool to confirm they’re registered. Only OMVIC registered dealers are legally allowed to sell vehicles in Ontario. This means if something goes wrong with your purchase, your rights are protected under the legislation.
  • Car buyers are reminded to stay informed and vigilant. Understanding your rights and following best practices can help you make confident decisions and support a fair, trustworthy vehicle marketplace. OMVIC remains committed to protecting consumers and promoting transparency in Ontario’s automotive vehicle sales industry.
  • The Motor Vehicle Dealers Compensation Fund (MVDCF) is only available to car buyers who purchase from an OMVIC registered dealer. The fund reimburses eligible car buyers who have suffered a proven financial loss related to a vehicle purchase, lease or consignment transaction.

Background

In November 2024, the Registrar of the Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council (OMVIC), Ontario’s vehicle sales regulator, ordered the revocation of the registration of T.A. Boston Auto Sales Ltd. and its Director, Thomas Andrew Boston, also known as Andy Boston, under the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act (MVDA).

Andy Boston was subsequently charged by OMVIC on two separate occasions in July and August 2025 and again in March 2026. These matters remain before the courts.

Despite the revocation and subsequent charges, OMVIC continues to receive information indicating that Andy Boston Motors may still be operating as an unregistered motor vehicle seller.

As the activity has continued despite these measures, OMVIC is now exploring additional regulatory and legal actions aimed at bringing the illegal sales activity to an end, which could include seeking stronger penalties through the courts such as possible jail time.

Selling vehicles without registration is illegal and can expose consumers to significant financial and legal risks.
