OMVIC is currently searching for a Senior Registration Officer position (12-months contract) for the Toronto-based corporate office.
Who is OMVIC?
OMVIC (Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council) is Ontario’s vehicle sales regulator. OMVIC enforces the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act and other consumer protection statutes for the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement. OMVIC’s mandate and role is to maintain a fair and informed marketplace by protecting the rights of consumers, enhancing industry professionalism, and ensuring fair, honest, and open competition for registered motor vehicle dealers. This is achieved by maintaining strict dealer/salesperson registration requirements; inspecting all Ontario dealers (new and used); providing free complaint handling to consumers; developing/delivering consumer and dealer education/awareness programs; and investigating and prosecuting industry non-compliance and illegal sales (curbsiding).

Role Summary:
The Senior Registration Officer is responsible for effectively and efficiently processing Dealer applications and changes related to dealerships in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act (MVDA).
Responsibilities:
- Review and approve dealership applications in accordance with the MVDA, ensuring all documentation is complete, accurate, and well-organized in the registration system.
- Track and manage multiple applications, conducting research, background checks, and interviews to assess applicant suitability.
- Liaise with internal departments and external agencies to verify applicant conduct and gather supporting information.
- Identify and follow up on missing or concerning information; escalate complex cases with written recommendations for Regulatory Action Committee review.
- Draft proposed Terms and Conditions of registration and prepare files for potential refusal or revocation.
- Communicate policies, procedures, and services clearly to applicants, and act as a conflict resolution agent.
- Testify at the License Appeal Tribunal and Provincial Offences Court as required.
- Maintain expert knowledge of the MVDA, regulations, and Code of Ethics, and recommend process improvements to enhance client service.
- Foster a collaborative and success-oriented work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education or equivalent relevant experience, with a minimum of 3 years preferred.
- Strong client service orientation with the ability to remain calm and helpful under pressure.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
- Proven ability to analyze stakeholder needs and provide effective solutions.
- Detail-oriented with strong time management, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
- Skilled in research, troubleshooting, and interpreting financial documents (asset).
- High level of professionalism, integrity, discretion, and sound judgment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Word; bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
