Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Getting started with continuing education

I understand that I am required to complete “in-house courses (REVS)”. What is this?

This means you must complete REVS – the educational courses delivered by OMVIC – before you can renew your registration. Effective for renewals expiring on or after July 1, 2026, all renewals are subject to mandatory education. REVS is one component of this requirement; the other is the Key Elements Course delivered by Georgian College. If your requirement is noted as REVS, this is the mandatory education you must complete prior to renewal.

Why do I need to complete continuing education?

You must complete your continuing education because it is mandatory for registration renewals on or after July 1, 2026. The required education must be completed before your registration expires. It is designed to ensure registrants understand and meet their regulatory obligations and supports ongoing compliance.

What does my dealer group mean?

The REVS program is organized into four learning groups based on dealer class or registrant type (dealer versus salesperson). This group structure applies only to REVS. The Key Elements Course (KEC) does not distinguish between registrant types. All registrants assigned to the KEC complete the same course. The chart below shows the applicable REVS courses for each group, and estimated completion time.

Dealer Group 1 (General, Lease-Finance, Broker dealers) Course 1: Application of the Law
Course 2: Financial Responsibilities
Course 3: Ethics and Professionalism
4 to 6 hours
Dealer Group 2 (Wholesaler and Exporter dealers) Course 1: Application of the Law
Course 2: Financial Responsibilities
Course 3: Ethics and Professionalism
4 to 6 hours
Dealer Group 3 (Fleet Lessors and Outside Ontario dealers) Course 1: Application of the Law 2 to 4 hours
Salesperson Group Course 1: Application of the Law and Understanding the Role of OMVIC
Course 2: Ethics and Professionalism
Course 3: Understanding Financial, Advertising, and Disclosure Requirements
5 to 6 hours

What are the recommended devices for completing the REVS program (in-house courses)?

A laptop, desktop, or tablet is recommended for the best learning experience. Larger screens provide the best experience for reading content and navigating modules. A working camera is required for identity verification during registration and assessments. Speakers or headphones can enhance the experience, although transcripts and captions are available for all audio content.

Registrants are encouraged to use a desktop or laptop when completing registration and payment in the OMVIC portal. For optimal results, we recommend using a Windows-based computer with either Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge as the browser.

What is an Attestation?

An attestation is a statement where someone confirms that something is true, accurate, and/or done by that person.

What is proctoring?

Proctoring is the monitoring of an exam or assessment to make sure it is completed fairly and according to the rules.

How do I allow camera access when completing REVS?

The REVS program uses your device’s camera to verify your identity during the registration process and assessments. Your camera will turn on when you give permission.

When you access the REVS program and select the ‘take-a-picture’ option, your browser will prompt you to allow camera access. Select Allow so you can upload or take the required photo.

If you accidentally block access, you can update your settings using the steps below.

Google Chrome

  1. Open the REVS page in Chrome.
  2. When prompted at the top of the screen, select Allow.
  3. If access was previously blocked, click the lock icon beside the website address, set Camera to Allow, and refresh the page.

Microsoft Edge

  1. Open the REVS page in Edge.
  2. When the camera message appears, select Allow.
  3. If the camera does not turn on, click the lock icon beside the website address, change Camera to Allow, and refresh the page.

Safari (Mac or iPad)

  1. When Safari asks for camera access, select Allow.
  2. If access was previously denied, open Safari Settings → Websites → Camera, and allow access for the REVS site.
  3. You may also need to confirm camera access in your device’s privacy settings.

If your camera still does not work, fully close your browser, reopen it, and try again. Make sure no other programs are using your camera at the same time.

How do I log in to the OMVIC Portal?

You log in using your OMVIC Portal username and password. This is the same portal used for OMVIC registration-related activities.

If you are new to the portal or have not logged in recently, take your time and read each screen carefully. Using a desktop or laptop computer can make navigation easier.

What should I do if I forget my password?

Use the password reset option on the OMVIC Portal login page. Follow the onscreen instructions to create a new password.

Password reset emails may take a few minutes to arrive. Check your junk or spam folder if you do not see it. If you continue to have trouble, contact OMVIC’s Registration department for help.

Why am I being asked to set up or use multi‑factor authentication (MFA)?

OMVIC has enabled MFA to help protect your account. MFA adds an extra step when signing in by requiring a one-time security code sent to your email or phone. This helps prevent unauthorized access to your OMVIC Portal account.

The following are the MFA setup steps:

  1. Click on the OMVIC Portal.
  2. Enter your email address and click the Next button.
  3. On the Enter password screen, click Forgot your password?
  4. On the Verify your identity screen, click the email icon and a security code will be sent to the email address we have on file for you.
  5. Check your spam or junk folder for your account verification code. The email will be sent from a Microsoft email account ([email protected]).
  6. Enter the security code in the appropriate box and then click Verify.
  7. You will be prompted to enter the new password twice and then click Reset password.
  8. Note: Your new password must be at least 8 characters, case sensitive, and include 3 of the following: uppercase letter, lowercase letter, number, or symbol.
  9. You will receive a pop-up acknowledgement that you have successfully reset your password.

How do I register for the REVS program?

Registration is completed through the OMVIC Portal after logging in. Select “REVS Registration” from your account dropdown menu and complete the registration and payment process. Once registered, your REVS courses are automatically assigned to you in the learning platform; you do not need to search for them separately.

After payment, you will receive an enrollment email approximately one hour from payment confirmation, and “Education Access (REVS)” will appear in your account dropdown menu.

For a step-by-step tutorial on the registration process see the video:

Registration Tutorial

How do I access the REVS program?

You access REVS by selecting “Education Access (REVS)” from your OMVIC Portal account dropdown menu, which appears after registering. When prompted, you will be required to provide or take a picture of yourself for identity verification purposes.

Once completed, the REVS program opens in your web browser. Before starting your course, make sure popups are allowed and that you have a stable internet connection.

How do I know which REVS courses I need to complete?

Your assigned REVS courses will appear automatically in the learning platform once registration is complete.

If you do not see your program listed, log out and log back in first. If the program still does not appear, contact Education for assistance at [email protected] or call 1-800-943-6002 (ext. 6).

How long does the REVS program take to complete?

The time required to complete REVS varies depending on your learner group and individual factors such as reading speed and familiarity with the content. On average, the program takes approximately 4–6 hours to complete and is self-paced within a 90-day window.

An estimated remaining learning time (based on the average 4–6 hours) is displayed on the main REVS program page for each course. This estimate does not affect the 90-day completion window.

How do I start a learning module?

Select the first course in the REVS program by clicking the ‘open’ button, then click ‘start’ on the first module to begin.

Courses and modules are completed online, at your own pace, and in order. Content modules must be completed before accessing the assessment module for each course. Read the instructions carefully and allow enough time to complete each section without rushing.

How do I track my progress?

The learning platform automatically tracks your progress as you complete each module in the REVS program.

You can see which courses and modules are completed and which are still in progress. Progress saves automatically when activities are completed and submitted successfully. The main REVS program page displays an estimated remaining learning time to help you track your progress.

What happens if my internet is slow or disconnects?

If your internet is slow or disconnects, pause and wait for the page to fully load before continuing.

If internet access is unreliable, consider completing the program at a library, community centre, or another location with stable internet.

What if I don’t have a computer or I’m not comfortable using one?

Support options are available for learners who have limited access to a computer or are less comfortable using technology.

You may use a public computer (such as at a library) or ask a trusted person to help you log in. Take your time, read instructions carefully, and reach out for support early if you need help navigating the platform. Tutorials on how to register, how to access the learning platform, and how to navigate within the REVS program are available below:

How do I know when my REVS program is complete?

Your program will show as completed on the main ‘My Learning’ screen once all required modules and assessments are finished. A Certificate of Completion will also be available on the ‘My Certificates’ page within the learning platform.

Before exiting the course, make sure that every module shows as complete. Incomplete modules or assessments may prevent your certificate from being generated.

How do I download my REVS completion certificate?

Once your REVS program requirement is complete, your Certificate of Completion will be available on the “My Certificates” page within the REVS program menu. Your certificate can also be accessed through the OMVIC Portal account dropdown under the “Education Requirement” page. You will receive an email confirming completion, which includes a link to your certificate.

Download and save a copy for your records. You may also print a copy if needed.

How is my REVS completion certificate used for registration renewal?

Completion of REVS (for those required to complete the OMVIC in-house courses) is a mandatory education requirement for renewing your registration. Your completion status will be automatically verified when you submit your renewal application.

How do I avoid missing the renewal deadline?

Register for and start your required education as soon as you receive the 90-day notification. You can renew your license 60 days ahead of your expiry date, so do not wait until the last few days before your renewal date. Starting early gives you time to complete the requirements, address any technical issues, and request support if needed. OMVIC sends reminder notices, but you are fully responsible for completing the education requirement and renewing your registration on time.

Is HST applied to the REVS education fee?

The REVS education fee is not subject to HST.

Can I submit my renewal application if I haven’t completed my education requirement?

No. Mandatory education must be completed before you can submit your renewal application.

To avoid delays, complete your education requirement early and confirm it shows as completed before attempting renewal.
