OMVIC is working with the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery (ministry) to make changes to the structure of our Board of Directors, which will improve governance and ensure a balanced, skills-based board.

The changes are inline with the work being done by other administrative authorities, and will assist OMVIC in the following ways:

  • Ensure the implementation of the recommendations set out by the Auditor General in respect to our Board of Directors
  • Enhance consumer protection
  • Enhance accountability for the sector, and
  • Present an opportunity for our board to lead in respect to governance best practices.

The ministry will engage with key industry associations in the coming weeks to discuss the changes. Following this, OMVIC will be required to make the necessary by-law changes to implement them. The resulting governance changes will then take effect immediately following the June 2023 annual general meeting.

We will be working very closely with our board and the ministry in the coming weeks and months to support this process and we will provide additional updates as they become available.
