OMVIC is currently searching for a Manager, Communications and Stakeholder Relations for our Toronto corporate office.
Who is OMVIC?
OMVIC (Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council) is Ontario’s vehicle sales regulator. OMVIC enforces the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act and other consumer protection statutes for the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery. OMVIC’s mandate and role is to maintain a fair and informed marketplace by protecting the rights of consumers, enhancing industry professionalism, and ensuring fair, honest, and open competition for registered motor vehicle dealers. This is achieved by maintaining strict dealer/salesperson registration requirements; inspecting all Ontario dealers (new and used); providing free complaint handling to consumers; developing/delivering consumer and dealer education/awareness programs; and investigating and prosecuting industry non-compliance and illegal sales (curbsiding).

Role Summary:
The Manager of Communications and Stakeholder Relations is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing internal and external communication strategies to support the organization’s objectives.
This role will manage relationships with key stakeholders, including government bodies, partners, and media, ensuring that the organization’s voice and values are effectively represented.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute integrated communication strategies, including media relations, digital communications, and content creation
- Create and manage compelling content for a variety of channels, such as press releases, social media, newsletters, website updates, and internal communications
- Oversee the organization’s brand messaging and ensure consistency across all platforms
- Monitor media trends and identify opportunities for positive exposure and reputation management
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, industry associations, and community groups
- Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholder inquiries and communications
- Coordinate public consultations, surveys, or focus groups to gather stakeholder feedback and develop responsive strategies
- Serve as the main media contact, managing press relationships, and responding to inquiries
- Prepare spokespeople and executives for media interviews, and draft talking points, speeches, and presentations as needed
- Monitor and analyze media coverage to inform future communication tactics and mitigate potential risks
- Develop and maintain crisis communication plans
- Provide strategic counsel during crisis situations, managing communication responses to minimize reputational damage
- Monitor issues that may have an impact on the organization and develop proactive communication plans
- Lead and mentor the communications and stakeholder relations team, providing guidance and performance feedback
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure communication initiatives support organizational objectives
- Manage external communication vendors, such as PR agencies or graphic designers, as necessary
- Measure the success of communication campaigns and stakeholder engagement efforts
- Report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and adjust strategies based on insights from analytics
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field
- 5-7 years of experience in communications, public relations, or stakeholder management, including managing teams
- Proven experience managing media relations, crisis communication, and stakeholder engagement
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences
- Proficiency in digital communications, including social media platforms, content management systems, and analytics tools
- Strong technical and computer skills are required and should include MS Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook as well as Social Media communications understanding and knowledge
- Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent presentation and public speaking skills; preparation of presentation materials and speaking notes;
- Ability to perform, make decisions and problem-solve under pressure; exercising initiative and sound judgment
- Exceptional degree of organizational and time management skills
- Experience in government relations or working with regulatory bodies or in non-profit sector considered an asset
- Working knowledge of applicable legislation
- French fluency considered an asset
